Preschool Update

I've been waiting to post so that I could have something positive to say about Jack's first couple weeks of preschool. Ha! As some of you may have heard, Jack pinched and bit a little girl on his first full day of school. The director of the school said that they have a "two strike" policy - meaning one more bite and Jack will be....yes, that's right....."dismissed".....from preschool!!! We spent all last weekend desperately trying to drill into Jack's head that he cannot bite - EVER. A few pumps of soap in his mouth after some nibbling incidents with Henry may have done the trick. To sweeten the deal, our neighbor found a bunch of Thomas the Train books at a garage sale and bought them for Jack. I hid them away and told Jack that for every day he is a good boy at school, he gets a new Thomas book! I think that may have been the ticket. I am happy to report that Jack had a great week at school this week - with no biting to speak of. Of course the teachers are shadowing him like hawks. If you ask him what being a "good boy" at school means, Jack says, "No pinching, No biting." Aside from the biting mishap, he seems to be LOVING school. He has shed very few tears and comes home covered in paint every day - so I think he's having a ball. Last night he sang me a couple of songs that he sings at school, including the "Bumblebee Song" (which I had forgotten until he caught the little bee in his hand and started singing, "I'm bringing home a baby bumblebee, Won't my mommy be so proud of me...."), "Wheels on the Bus" and "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes." They even have a "space station" in his class, and when I asked him if he liked the space station, he replied, "Yes! I broke it!" Oh...lovely.

Please keep your fingers crossed that we have another good week next week. Mommy and Daddy are on pins and needles every day, but hopefully once Jack gets settled in and used to the routine, we won't have to worry about biting anymore. I had emailed my cousin for advice and she put it perfectly - "Why didn't anyone mention that it would be this hard?" LOL. And he's only 2 1/2! I have a feeling I'm going to have a lot of gray hairs by the time he is in high school.

As for his study habits, Jack is already pulling all-nighters. Two nights ago I went in to turn off his light and found him passed out in a book. Take a look -

So happy to hear things are going well at school! The book idea is an awesome idea. I love the comment Jack made about the space ship at school. Still laughing about that one.
